PASADENA, Calif. – It was all about the offense Wednesday night as the Whittier College Men's Water Polo team rolled Caltech 17-8.

The Purple & Gold have now won their last three contests and four of their last five as they move back to .500 at 11-11, 6-3 SCIAC.  The Poets currently sit 3rd in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Standings (SCIAC).

Whittier scored the first seven goals of the game all coming in the first quarter with Carlos Heredia Viteri (Commerce, Calif.) adding three and Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden) with two.  Caltech got on the scoreboard first in the second frame but were outscored 5-1 over the remaining 6:52 as WC led 12-2 at the half.

The Beavers found their offense early in the third with Neil Sanderson, Charles Ross, and Steven Csaposs going back to back to back to cut the deficit to seven.  But that's as close as they would get as Whittier would string together five straight to extend their lead 17-5.

Caltech attempted a comeback scoring the final three goals of the game but it wouldn't be enough as Whittier would hold on for the lopsided victory.

Heredia Viteri finished with four goals, an assist and a steal.  Zdolsek added three goals, an assist, and a steal and Cornelis Kriek (Pretoria, South Africa) provided a three goal effort with an assist and a steal.

Murat Ersoz (Istanbul, Turkey) got the start and finished with seven saves playing 16:00 minutes.  Eliott Bergerson (Whittier, Calif.) played the second half allowing just three goals.

Whittier comes home this weekend to host the University of La Verne this Saturday, October 27 beginning at 11:00am.  They then take on Princeton University in a nightcap at 7:00pm in their final non-conference bout.
