Eric Borunda named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year

WHITTIER, Calif. – The 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) men's water polo teams were announced last week following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Freshman Eric Borunda (Whittier, Calif.) led the awards recognition for Whittier College being named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Borunda helped the Poets to a 15-13 overall mark, highlighted by a 10-4 record in conference play, and a berth as the No. 2 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.  Borunda notched 32 goals in league play in his debut season, and scored 53 times overall for the Poets, which led the team.

He also added nine assists and a .427 shot percentage along with ten steals.
