WHITTIER, Calif. – The 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) men's water polo teams were announced following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.
Whittier College saw three players earn All-SCIAC accolades led by sophomore Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden) and junior Murat Ersoz (Istanbul, Turkey) who both landed on the 1st Team. Freshman Eric Borunda (Whittier, Calif.) landed on the 2nd Team.
Zdolsek finds himself on an All-SCIAC team for the second straight year after landing on the 2nd Team in 2017. This year he led the Poets on the defensive end making way to a 1st Team All-SCIAC season. In conference he registered 39 goals and eight assists with a .500 shot percentage. He also had 13 steals. On the year he finished with 48 goals and 10 assists with a .522 shot percentage.
Ersoz put together another solid season proving to be the top goalie within the conference. He is a 1st Team All-SCIAC performer for the second straight year and has been selected to an All-SCIAC team for the third time in his career (2nd Team – 2016). This year in conference he totaled 181 saves with a .578 save percentage. He had an 8.93 goals against average and added 13 steals. On the year he tallied 213 saves, a .541 save percentage and a 9.39 goals against average.
Borunda who was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year finds himself on the 2nd Team as well as he notched 32 goals in league play in his debut season, and scored 53 times overall for the Poets, which led the team. He also added nine assists and a .427 shot percentage along with ten steals. He becomes the second Poet in consecutive years to earn Newcomer of the Year distinction. Zdolsek received this recognition in 2017.
