CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's & Women's Track & Field teams competed in back-to-back meets over the weekend taking part in the Rossi Relays at Claremont-M-S.
They were surrounded by a vast field from Division II and Division III to NAIA.
Other teams included Concordia (Calif.), Fresno Pacific, Azusa Pacific, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Baptist, Cal State L.A., Occidental, Cal Lutheran, Claremont-M-S, Pomona-Pitzer, The Masters, the Uni. of La Verne, Long Beach, Caltech, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Cal State San Bernardino.
On the men's side, they accumulated 21 points, which placed them 11th out of 19 programs. On the women's side with limited numbers they took 14th with a total of 8.20 points.
For the day, Whittier had five spectacular individual performances. David Bean (La Habra, Calif.) moves to 4th All-Time in the Whittier College record books in the Pole Vault after placing 8th at a 14-01.25 mark.
In the running events, freshman Elyse Espe (Wishon, Calif.) moves to 3rd All-Time in the 400 Hurdles after going 10th with a 67.52 mark. The 4x800 Relay team also had a big day setting a new program record after placing 2nd overall with a 9:47.90. The Women's Distance Medley Relay then followed suit as they broke the Whittier College school record with an 11:53.66, which placed them 2nd overall.
Christina Prieto (La Mirada, Calif.) had a big day in the hammer throw with a 105-11 mark, finishing 18th on the day, which moved her to 10th all-time in the Whittier College Record books.
Whittier gears up for the first conference meet, SCIAC No. 1, which will take place this Saturday, March 3 at the University of Redlands.
