WHITTIER, Calif. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2018 All-Academic team and individual award recipients recently. Whittier College saw their women's team earn All-Academic recognition, while junior Piper Lowinger (Whittier, Calif.) and freshman Benjamin White (Whittier, Calif.) received individual accolades.
The USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award goes to programs that have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The ladies finished the season with a 3.25 cumulative G.P.A. Lowinger, who earns All-Academic recognition for the first time in her career competed in the 110m Hurdles, 4x100 Relay, and the Pole Vault. She finished with a perfect 4.0 for the Spring and now sits with a 3.89 cumulative G.P.A. White had an impressive year both in the classroom and on the track boasting the school record in the 10,000m, while competing in the 5,000m and other distance events. He finished the Spring with a 3.36 G.P.A. and was runner-up for the SCIAC Track & Field Newcomer of the Year.
A total of 46 student-athletes within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) (19 male, 27 female) received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, having posted a GPA of 3.30 or better and either competed at a NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, or finished the regular season with a top-50 individual event or top-35 relay national ranking.
