WHITTIER, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athletes of the Week for Track & Field were released Monday by the conference office.

Sophomore Elyse Espe (Wishon, Calif.) was recognized as the Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week in the 3rd Week of Voting.

Espe helped the Poets finish 1-2 in dual meet action as they defeated Chapman, 99-44, but fell 104-53 to Occidental, and 92.5-64.5 to Pomona-Pitzer. Espe powered to a first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.31, breaking the Whittier College school record, held by Chad Rosario back in 2008 and then had a hand in the 4x400-meter relay team that won the event with a mark of 4:08.66. She also took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Whittier returns to competition this Saturday, March 9 when the distance runners compete in the Oxy Distance Carnival, hosted by Occidental College.
