WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team has won three in a row after a 55-43 win over Colorado College Saturday night.

With the victory the Purple & Gold are off to the best start under the tutelage of Head Coach Roy Dow as they move to 3-0.  Colorado College drops now to 1-1.

It was all about the defense inside of the Graham Athletic Center with the Poets forcing 22 Tiger turnovers and scoring 24 points off of them.  They shot 34% from the field and 21% from three point territory.  They edged Colorado College on the glass 39-37 and turned the ball over just 12 times.

The Poets were held to just four points over the first nine minutes but got jumpers from Laura Stroud (Ann Arbor, MI) and Monica Hanna (Bellflower, Calif.) in the final minute to pull within two at 10-8.  In the second, Whittier came out firing on all cylinders outscoring the Tigers 16-9 behind a 33% effort from the field and a 29% clip from behind the arc.  Cali Cubel (Oceanside, Calif.) registered six points during the frame as WC led 24-19 at the break.

Whittier started pulling away in the third opening the game up with another 16 points (47% from the field), while locking down the Tigers on the defensive end holding them to just three points, while forcing seven turnovers.  This moved the deficit to 18, which was enough to pull off the twelve point victory despite Colorado College coming back with a 21 point effort in the 4th.

Cubel again led the offense with 13 points along with four boards, four assists and two steals.  Hanna played big inside with 10 points and four rebounds and Stroud continues to play steady with an eight point effort and eight boards.  Teani White (Burbank, Calif.) started at the point and added six points with four steals and a team high 10 rebounds and Daisy Cardenas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) came off the bench to add six points and three rebounds, again with two triples.

Whittier is averaging 59 points per game and shooting 37% from the field on the season.  They are averaging 38.7 rebounds per game and 10 assists per game.

Whittier travels for the first time this season as they go play Division II Cal State Bakersfield this Tuesday, November 20 beginning at 7:00pm.
