WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team will be featured on WatchESPN tonight, Tuesday, November 20 beginning at 7:00pm
The Purple & Gold take on Division I Cal State Bakersfield this evening on the road beginning at 7:00pm and the game will be streamed live through WatchESPN.
This will be the first time Bakersfield has faced the Poets. The contest will be recorded as an exhibition game for Whittier and will not affect their overall record.
Whittier College has tallied three wins at home to start the 2018-19 season undefeated. The Poets defeated Linfield 58-50 in their season opener on Monday, Nov. 12 before giving Pacific (Ore.) and Colorado College their first losses on the year this past weekend.
They are led by junior Cali Cubel who is averaging 15 points per game and was just named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Offensive Athlete of the Week. On the defensive end sophomore transfer Laura Stroud has played lights out averaging eight points per game, three assists, and a team high eight boards. She has also been matched up on each team's top scorer and has limited their production.
Bakersfield is coming off a 47-53 loss at UTEP after opening the season with its first 2-0 start since 2014-15 with wins over Wright State and UC Santa Barbara. The Roadrunners are led by a trio of players averaging double figures. Alexxus Gilbert leads the pack with 14.0 ppg, JJ Johnson averages 11.0 ppg while Malayasia McHenry rounds out the senior class with 10.5 ppg and 11.3 rpg.
