Poets end Street Shine Invite with loss to Loggers 87-65

OAHU, HI – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team ended the Street Shine Invitational in Hawaii Wednesday falling to University of Puget Sound 87-65.

Whittier has now lost back-to-back games for the first time this season as they move to 5-3, 2-1 SCIAC.  Puget Sound has now won four in a row and improves to 7-2, 1-1 NWC.

Teani White (Burbank, Calif.) led the poets scoring with 13 points.  After being held scoreless in the first half and then adding a free throw in the third, White went off in the fourth with 12 points, which included two triples.

Mia Maglinte (Roseville, Calif.) had a solid game finishing with 11 points with another two three-pointers and Zaria Branch (San Diego, Calif.) and Cali Cubel (Oceanside, Calif.) each recorded seven point efforts.  Whittier found it tough to stop the Loggers offense in the first half allowing 26 points in the first quarter and another 25 in the second.  They trailed 51-27 at the break and despite outscoring UPS in the second half 38-36, it wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback.

Full game stats and recap to follow.

Whittier returns from Hawaii this Saturday before taking the next few days off for the Holidays.  They return to the court next weekend, December 28-29 when they host the Holiday Inn La Mirada Purple & Gold Poet Classic.  Over the two days they will host Brooklyn College (Dec. 28 @ 3:00pm) and Illinois Wesleyan (Dec. 29 @ 5:00pm).
