Kajal Vitha takes 3rd at CMS Invite; Poets finish 2nd

CHINO, Calif. – Junior Kajal Vitha (Whittier, Calif.) made her season debut over the weekend during the CMS Invite and she made her presence felt finishing 3rd overall posting scores of 77-77 (+10). 

The Purple & Gold took seven players to the Invite, which took place over two days at Los Serranos Golf Club.

Saturday – First Round (322)

Following Day 1, the Poets sat in 2nd Place trailing the Athenas of Claremont-M-S by five strokes, while Pomona-Pitzer (326) and Occidental (328) rounded out the field.

The Poets were paced on the afternoon by Vitha and her 77 but she was the lone sub-80 round.  The next closest was Madison Crimi-Demichele (San Jose, Calif.) who posted an 81 followed by a trio of Poets at 82 (Taylor Beckwith (Turlock, Calif.), Kainani Ho (Waipahu, HI), Kamryn Marie Garcia (La Mirada, Calif.)).

The two individuals for Whittier included Ciara Clark (Henderson, NV) (85) and Jessica Zona (Temecula, Calif.) (93).            

Sunday – Second Round (316)

Whittier rebounded on day two improving six strokes to shoot a 316.  Vitha again posted a 77 for the second straight day to finish in 3rd overall.  But this time around she was joined by two other Poets in the 70's.  Crimi-Demichele posted her career low of 74, which moved her into a 4th place finish for the invite and Beckwith shot a 78 to tally a 9th place finish.

Rounding out the Top 15 for the field included freshman duo Ho and Garcia who posted scores of 87-88 for 13th and 14th.

For the individuals, Clark improved two shots with an 83 on day two to finish in 12th and Zona moved up three strokes to a 90 (23rd).

Claremont-M-S won the team title with a 303 and Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer (321) rounded out the field.      

Whittier rounds out their Fall season in a head to head match-up with Chapman University next week on Tuesday, October 3 at Candlewood Country Club.
