Women’s Golf Ranked No. 22 in WGCA Pre-Season Polls

WHITTIER, Calif. – The National Division III Women's Golf Pre-Season Polls were released by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Tuesday.

The Purple & Gold who return three of their top five from a team which finished No. 20 in the final Division III National Polls in 2019 come into 2020 ranked No. 22 receiving 50 points. 

Other Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams landing in the National Spotlight include No. 4 Claremont-M-S (310 Points), No. 11 Redlands (214 Points), No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer (191 Points), and No. 19 Chapman (88 Points).  Cal Lutheran (8) and Occidental (4) also received votes. 

Whittier is led by senior Taylor Beckwith (Turlock, Calif.) who was the first women's golfer in program history to qualify for the Division III National Championships.  She finished 22nd at Nationals, was named a WGCA All-American, WGCA All-West Region, and 1st Team All-SCIAC.  She also finished 2019 ranked No. 19 with a 77.22 scoring average.

Kamryn Marie Garcia (La Mirada, Calif.) and Natalie Gonzalez (Norwalk, Calif.) are the other two starters who join Beckwith.  They look to lead a young Poet squad into the 2019-20 season.  Marie Garcia finished ranked No. 95 in the Division III National Polls averaging an 80.75 and Gonzalez looks to build off a successful first year with the Purple & Gold averaging just over an 82.            

Whittier opens their season at the Bulldog Fall Invitational on September 21-22 at The S Club in Rancho Mirage.
