WHITTIER, Calif. – Despite putting up a double digit scoring effort, the Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team was unable to come up with the upset victory on the road as they fell 20-11 to Chapman University.
For the second straight game the Purple & Gold have put together a strong offensive showing as they have combined for 19 goals. The Poets have now lost four straight as they drop to 1-4, 0-4 SCIAC.
It was a story of two halves as Whittier would rebound after giving up 12 goals in the first half to losing the edge 8-6 in the second. Neely O'Grady (Lorton, VA) and Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA) combined for all five goals in the first half. Meanor then opened up the second half scoring two minutes in and was followed by Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) with an unassisted goal.
O'Grady would then break up a six goal spurt by CU with her own unassisted goal with Meanor adding her fifth of the game with 9:48 to play. Then with under 4:00 to play, Jess Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Meanor would add back to back strikes, which wouldn't be enough.
Meanor led the Poets with six goals on eight shots with three groundballs and a caused turnover. O'Grady finished with three goals and an assist with five draw controls and two groundballs.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) finished with six saves between the posts against 23 shots.
Whittier was outshot on the evening 34-23 but was 5-6 on clear attempts and picked up 18 groundballs.
Whittier returns to action on Tuesday, March 14 as they host FDU-Florham beginning at 11:00am.
