WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team found it difficult to get any offense going Tuesday as they were overpowered by FDU-Florham falling in a lopsided contest 18-5 at Memorial Stadium.
The Purple & Gold have now lost five in a row as they drop to 1-5, 0-4 SCIAC.
They were held to just two goals in the first half and three in the second. Freshman Neely O'Grady (Lorton, VA) led Whittier adding the first score of the contest coming at the 28:50 mark and on the Poets first possession as she was fed by fellow freshman Noelle Tamas (Granite Bay, Calif.).
O'Grady came back with 21:16 to play in the half and connected again but this time on a free position but the Poets still trailed 13-2 at the break.
Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) got into the scoring category to begin the second half getting hit by O'Grady but a 4-0 run by FDU-Florham would extend the lead to 17-3.
Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA) would add the final two tallies for the Poets coming back to back with the first being on a free position attempt but deficit was to much to overcome as Whittier would fall by double digits.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) got the start in goal and finished with nine saves against 24 shots.
Whittier was outshot for the game 36-12 and was 2-4 on free positions, while going 3-9 on clear attempts.
Whittier returns to action tomorrow, Thursday, March 15 as they host Whitman at beginning at 11:00am.
