WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team faced off against a tough Occidental College squad Saturday as they fell 20-6 at Memorial Stadium.
The Purple & Gold remain winless in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play as they drop to 3-9, 0-6 SCIAC.
Whittier struck first with an unassisted goal from Melanie Rizzotti on their first possession but wouldn't find the back of the goal until the 13:02 mark this time from Jess Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) who was fed by Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA).
This made the score 7-2 before striking again with 6:38 to play in the half as Morgan Miracle (Tustin, Calif.) capitalized on a free position moving the score to 13-3 at the break.
The poets managed another three goals in the second half from Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.), Neely O'Grady (Lorton, VA), and Miracle but the offense by the Tigers was too much as they would roll to the lopsided victory.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) picked up the loss between the posts finishing with seven saves against 20 shots.
Whittier was outshot on the game 42-14 and turned the ball over 27 times, while gathering just five draw controls. J. Hansen led the offense with a goal and an assist along with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Meanor contributed as well totaling two assists, three groundballs, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Whittier remains at home this Wednesday, April 12 as they host the University of Redlands beginning at 7:00pm.
