WHITTIER, Calif. – Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) had another double digit save performance Saturday morning but it wasn't enough as the Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team fell 20-3 to Occidental College.

The Purple & Gold remain winless on the season at 0-4, 0-4 SCIAC.

The Tigers started the game off with 11 straight until the Poets got on the scoreboard from Melanie Rizzotti (Mukilteo, WA) who was fed by Noelle Tamas (Granite Bay, Calif.) with 8:13 to play in the half.

It was a story of two halves for Whittier as they came out of the break holding the high-octane offense of Oxy to just four goals and just 10 shot attempts. Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA) got into the scoring category with 10:24 to play capitalizing on a man-up opportunity.  Tamas then followed on the Poets next possession and added her first of the game but the deficit was too much as the Tigers would roll to the lopsided win.

Topping finished with 10 saves against 27 shots.  Her back-up freshman Cole DiGrazia (Brooklyn, NY) put together an impressive 16:36 between the posts collecting four saves and allowing just three goals, while picking up two groundballs.

Tamas led the offense with a goal and an assist and picked up two groundballs.  Rizzotti added a goal a groundball and two draw controls and Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) finished with three draw controls.

Whittier was outshot 37-5 for the game and won just seven draw controls.  They were 8-19 on clear attempts, was 1-2 on free positions and picked up 11 groundballs.

Whittier opens up non-conference play tomorrow night, Monday, March 12 when they take on Beloit College beginning at 7:00pm.
