LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team ended their 2018 season Saturday at Occidental College attempting to spoil the Tigers Senior Night. But they couldn't stop the top offense in SCIAC as they fell 23-7.
Whittier finished the season 3-13, 0-10 SCIAC.
After two quick goals from Oxy the Poets got on the scoreboard at the 26:57 mark as Melanie Rizzotti (Mukilteo, WA) connected getting fed by Neely O'Grady (Lorton, VA). Another five from the Tigers opened things up until O'Grady and Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) would go back-to-back with 17:00 minutes to play in the first half cutting the deficit to four.
But this is as close as Whittier would get as Occidental would close out the half on a 7-2 run to go into the half up 14-5. The final two tallies in the stanza from the Purple & Gold came from Noelle Tamas (Granite Bay, Calif.) and O'Grady.
The second half was low scoring on both sides. Whittier was able to hold Oxy to just nine goals but they were only able to muster two themselves from O'Grady and Tamas, which wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Whittier was outshot on the game 41-14, picked up 16 groundballs, hauled in 17 draw controls and was 6for-15 on clear attempts.
In goal, Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) finished with 11 saves against 34 shots. O'Grady led the offense finishing with three goals and an assist along with six draw controls. Tamas added two goals with a groundball and three draw controls and Meanor registered eight draw controls.
