WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team earned their second win on the season Friday night cruising to the lopsided 16-1 victory over Johnson & Wales University.
The Purple & Gold have now won two of their last three as they move to 2-5, 0-4 SCIAC. They are also averaging 14.5 goals per game in the month of March.
Whittier posted a shutout in the first half outscoring the Wildcats 13-0. They put up an early goal with Morgan Miracle (Tustin, Calif.) getting fed by Gabby Boller (Howell, NJ) but didn't score again until the 21:35 mark when Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA) connected for her first of six tallies. This goal for Meanor sparked four unanswered from the senior midfielder, covering a little over three minutes.
Joining the scoring spurt in the half was Zorida Castro (San Diego, Calif.), Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) with three, and Emily Olague (San Ramon, Calif.). In the second period WC played for possession and used full time before attempting a shot. They ran their motion and that's why they only put up three goals over the final 30:00 minutes, with two coming from Olague.
Meanor finished with six goals and an assist, along with picking up 10 groundballs and four draw controls. She also caused seven turnovers.
Boller, despite not having a goal added seven assists and Hansen put up a three goal, five assist effort with four groundballs and five draws.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) picked up the win for the Poets between the posts. She finished with two saves against three shots.
Whittier outshot the Wildcats 27-5, picked up 27 groundballs, won 14 draw controls, and was 14-for-15 on clear attempts.
Whittier remains at home this Tuesday, March 19 when they host Framingham State beginning at 11:00am.
