LA VERNE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Soccer team suffered a tough loss on the road Wednesday evening as they fell 2-0 to the University of La Verne.

The previous time these two teams met Whittier was on the losing end of a 2-1 loss and are now 0-2 against the Leopards.  With the loss the Poets drop to 4-5-4, 2-4-3 SCIAC, while La Verne moves to 2-10, 2-6 SCIAC.

It was a defensive stand in the first half with a combined eight shots being taken.  La Verne got on the scoreboard quickly though four minutes into the contest from Jessica Hernandez who was fed by Kindal Cubak.

This lead would hold at the half despite Kaela Reisfelt (Beverly Hills, Calif.) and Lauren Kai (Torrance, Calif.) getting shots off forcing Leo keeper Heather Seman into save situations.

In the second, Whittier struggled to find any offensive opportunities taking a mere one shot, while ULV would add another nine, while finding the back of the goal for a second time, but this time from Alexis Smith who was fed by Cambria Smith.

This would be insurance as the Leopards for hold on for the 2-0 victory.

Alexi Cruz (Long Beach, Calif.) played all 90:00 minutes between the posts finishing with seven saves, while four different Poets finished with a shot a piece.

Whittier returns home for two games.  They begin with a match-up against Pomona-Pitzer this Saturday, October 15 beginning at 7:00pm before taking on Redlands next week on Wednesday, October 19 with game time set for 7:00pm.
