LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Soccer team suffered a tough loss on the road Wednesday night as they fell 1-0 to Occidental College.
The Purple & Gold have now been held scoreless for the ninth time this season as they drop to 2-5-5, 2-3-3 SCIAC. They currently sit 6th in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.
The lone goal came in the 2nd half at the 53:33 mark from Anaise Nugent who was fed from Chiara Serafini.
Whittier was outshot on the game 21-3 and was blanked on corner kicks 8-0. Vanessa Martinez (La Mirada, Calif.) played all 90:00 minutes between the posts and finished with 11 saves against 12 shots. Two of the three shots were on goal coming from Erin Myers (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) and Clarissa Field (Whittier, Calif.). The third strike coming from Bella Capellino De Escobedo (Los Angeles, Calif.).
Whittier has the weekend off before returning to the pitch next Wednesday, October 23 when they travel to take on Caltech beginning at 4:00pm.
