COMMERCE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Swimming & Diving team dropped two spots into 7th at the conclusion of Day 2 at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships totaling 153 points for the two days.
The bright spot on the day came from freshman Esther Choe (Mercer Island, WA) who despite finishing 14th in the 200 IM broke the Whittier College Record with a 2:11.83, which broke the previous record by over two seconds held by Evelyn Beguiristain (2:13.21) back in 2012.
In the 50 Free, Kayla Heiss (Honolulu, HI) was able to make it to the finals with a strong performance in the prelims and came away with a 9th place finish with a time of 24.69.
In the final event on the day, the 200 Free Relay, the team of Heiss, Brenda Shanahan (San Ramon, Calif.), Brianna Nowicki (Londonderry, NH), and Ashley Sagouspe (Fresno, Calif.) came in 7th receiving points for the Purple & Gold posting a time of 1:39.64, while Morgan Molinaro (Chino Hills, Calif.), Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, Ill.), Choe, and Kayanna Heffner (Bend, OR) took 15th (1:42.63).
