WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Swimming & Diving team fell to the Regals of Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, 159.5-54.5 with limited numbers.
The Poets would start out strong with the 400 Medley Relay team of Lexi Mauldin (Modesto, Calif.), Alexa Melara (Rialto, Calif.), Esther Choe (Mercer Island, WA), and Brooke Geske (San Pedro, Calif.) touching 13 seconds ahead of the Cal Lutheran team at 4:10.43 for 1st.
In the distance events, Morgan Molinaro (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Allie Novak (Duarte, Calif.) finished 2-3 in the 1000 Free posting times of 11:38.24 and 11:49.52, each respectively. The pair would later go 3-4 in the 500 Free with Molinaro swimming a 5:38.27 and Novak going 5:30.11.
Geske would earn some more points for the Purple & Gold, winning the 200 Free with a 1:59.25 and the 200 Back at a 2:08.81. Mauldin would follow behind Geske for 4th in the 200 Back and 5th in the 50 Free. Choe would finish just ahead for 2nd place with a 26.48.
To round off the Free events, Junior Brenda Shanahan would touch at 55.69 for a close 2nd. Shanahan would score some more points by earning 3rd right after Melara in the 400 IM, with the first-year finishing at 4:48.15.
Wrapping up the individual events, Victoria Unger (Granite Bay, Calif.) finished 3rd (2:39.44) in the 200 Fly. Whittier tried to play catchup and earned some big points in the 200 Breast with Melara, Choe, and Senior Erika Ngo (Alhambra, Calif.) going 1-2-3.
Whittier returns to the pool, Saturday, February 3 as they travel to the University of Redlands.
