200 Medley Relay Leads Poets on Day 1 of SCIAC Championships

COMMERCE, Calif. – The 200 Medley Relay team got things started for the Whittier College Women's Swimming & Diving Team at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.

The four day event took place at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce, Calif.  The Purple & Gold finished Day 1 with 66 points, placing them 8th overall.

The team of Lexi Mauldin (Modesto, Calif.), Alexa Melara (Rialto, Calif.), Esther Choe (Mercer Island, WA), and Brooke Geske (San Pedro, Calif.) took home 3rd place recognition in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.14 handing WC 36 points, while breaking the school record, which was held by Jessie Ku, Kayla Heiss, Haley Von Schottenstein, and Samantha Ettinger back in 2014 (1:48.88).

In the second relay on the day, the 800 Free, the team of Kayanna Heffner (Bend, OR), Melara, Allie Novak (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), and Brenda Shanahan (San Ramon, Calif.) would take 8th with a time of 8:17.86, grabbing another 26 points for Whittier.
