Megan Thai wins SCIAC Diving Championship (3-Meter)

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Freshman Megan Thai (Alhambra, Calif.) impressed Sunday, winning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) 3-meter Diving Championships. 

Pomona-Pitzer hosted the Diving Championships at Haldeman Pool.  After preliminary dives, nine divers advanced to the six-dive final.

Thai had the biggest jump of the competition between the morning and afternoon rounds.  In the prelims she finished 2nd with a 426.40 but bounced back strong in the finals improving by 21.10 points to win the event with a score of 447.50. 

Emma van der Veen (Pomona-Pitzer), who silvered last year came in second again with a 441.95 and Claremont-M-S' Jacquelyn Desmond took third with a 428.70. 

Senior Becca Ayers (La Habra, Calif.) picked up points for the Poets as well finishing 5th overall posting a 389.80, which was an improvement by over twenty points from the prelims.    

Over the two-days Whittier combined for 61 points, which gave them the SCIAC Diving Team Championship.  They edged the Sagehens by a point (60).   

The swimming portion of the SCIAC Championships will take place Thursday-Sunday, February 21-24 at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce, Calif.
