GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman diver Megan Thai (Alhambra, Calif.) put the finishing touches on a historic first year for the Whittier College Women's Swimming & Diving team as the first freshman diver in program history to reach the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.
Thai opened up the NCAA Championships on Wednesday by placing 26th overall on the 3-meter board with a score of 355.05. She then returned Friday afternoon on the 1-meter putting up a mark of 345.00 that put her 28th.
She becomes the second diver in school history to qualify for the National Championships. The previous qualifier is Hall of Famer Charlotte (Michel) Kochman who earned a spot at Nationals three times in her career.
At the NCAA Regionals two weeks ago Thai finished 5th on the 3-meter with a score of 371.60 and then posted a 355.30 on the 1-meter, which put her 8th.
