Whittier sweeps Hope to improve to 2-0

WHITTIER, Calif. - Two matches, two wins. The Whittier College women's tennis team picked up its second win in as many tries on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 win over visiting Hope International University at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.

The Poets (2-0) were led by Elizabeth Reitzell and Maryrose Vigorita who didn't drop a single set all match. Reitzell teamed with Katie Davidson and made quick work of their opponents at No. 3 doubles while Vigorita and Victoria Curtis cruised at No. 2 doubles.

Reitzell and Vigorita continued their strong play at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, with straight set sweeps.

Reme Bohlin matched the efforts of Reitzell and Vigorita with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and Curtis rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

Curtis officially clinched the match for the Poets. She was the second player finished on the singles side of the afternoon which gave Whittier the needed five wins to claim victory.

Lauren Gelgur rolled at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win and she teamed with Kady Oliker to earn an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

Oliker capped off the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top singles spot.

The Poets return to the court on Saturday, February 6, as they host Grand Canyon at 10 am.
