WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team had a tough outing against the University of Puget Sound falling 8-1 at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.
They were down 2-0 in doubles quickly falling 8-2 and 8-1 at No. 1 and No. 3. The battle took place at No. 2 with Avery Turner (Austin, TX) and Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) falling late 8-6. Trailing 3-0 after doubles, Whittier was forced to play catch-up. They got a point from Lopez at No. 4 winning in straights handily 6-2, 6-1.
Kiara Embrey (Los Angeles, Calif.) fought at No. 5 winning the opening set 7-5 but couldn't complete the win falling 6-4, 10-7. Julie Cutler (Salt Lake City, UT) was put in at No. 6 and she too forced a third set. She dropped the opening frame 6-1 but leveled the match with a 6-4 win in the second but couldn't complete the comeback falling 10-3 in the third set super tiebreaker.
Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) was in the No. 2 slot and despite playing the match close couldn't overcome a pair of breaks falling 6-3, 6-3.
