LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's & Women's Track & Field Teams took part in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) over the weekend and came away with some strong results.
Julissa Tobias leads the women as she is an All SCIAC performer with a 3rd place in the 1500m with a time of 4:44.46. This was a PR of 4 seconds as she ran a smart race with a strong finish. She also finished in 5th in the 5000m with a time of 18:15.83. She is now No. 2 all time in both races. Laniesha Ross also ran well with a 25.78 in the 200m for 5th place, a 12.84 in the 100m for 10th place, and a 4' 11.75' high jump for 6th place. She is now #2 all time in both the 100m and 200m and tied for 3rd in the high jump. Sheldyn Odom ran well in both the 100m and 200m with a 13.14 for 14th and a 27.2 for 13th to join the all-time list at #10 and #8 respectively.
ReyAnn Rivera wet 5:03.84 for 9th in the 1500m. Jessica Iribe had a 39:26.00 in the 10,000m for 6th as she PRed by over 40 seconds with a No. 2 time on the all-time list. Kourtney Brodnax ran well in the 400m Hurdles with a 67.67 for 6th place and a No. 3 all-time listing. The 4X100m relay team of Jacqueline Walker, Ross, Destinee Unabia, and Odom ran to a 6th with a 50.52 for No. 2 all time. Walker also went 15' 11.5 for 14th in the long jump. Julia Reyes placed 7th in the javelin with a 5' PR to go 109' 05 and Christina Prieto went 98' 10" in the discus for 11th and 31' 4.5" in the shot put for 14th.
Christian Sook goes long in the javelin to be an All SCIAC performer with a 3rd place finish with a throw of 171' 9". This was a 19' improvement and laces him at No. 6 all time. Julian Sandoval places 4th in the 1500m with a big PR going 3:55.58 and is now No. 7 all-time. He also ran solid 1:56.84 in qualifying for the 800m finals before sickness caught up to him. Kevin Huey had a busy day as he went 2:02.56 in the 800m, 4:03.88 for 10th in the 1500m, and 15:38.34 in the 5000m. Ruben Solorza ran 15:13.4 for 10th in the 5000m.
David Richardson jumped to a 21' 1.5" mark for 4th in the long jump while Eric Jennings was 8th with a 20' 10' effort. Miguel Redmond placed 5th in pole vault with a personal best of 13'11.75" jump. He was followed by Ty Gammiere with a 12' 00" effort to place 10th. Somaan Iqbal took 5th in the discus with a 133' 2" mark. Andrew Jimenez finished up the day for the men with an 8th place in the shot put going 42' 10.25".
The Poets will send a small group to the Occidental Invitational meet this Saturday, May 7.
