Whittier College head track and field coach Robert Neely announced Thursday the addition of Aaron Lund to his program’s coaching staff. Lund will serve the team as an assistant coach, overseeing the Poets’ sprints, hurdles and relays.

Lund comes to Whittier following one year at Abilene Christian University serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for sprints, hurdles, jumps and relays. He coached 5 Conference Champions and 11 All-Conference Honors. He coached Jeremy Tatham to the 2016 USATF Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles and guided Corniel Lionel to a St. Lucian Indoor National record (200m 21.19). He also helped the women’s cross country team win ACU’s first DI conference championship since rejoining the Southland Conference.

Before Abilene, Lund spent two successful seasons (2013-15) as an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas. Lund coached two NCAA DIII national champions in the 100m hurdles and distance medley relay and three NCAA Runner-Up finishes (60m hurdles, 100m, and 4x100m relay). A total of 16 All-Americans, 24 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions and 9 school records.

A three-time USTFCCCA Academic All-American, Lund served as Minnesota State University Moorhead’s team captain for three years and twice earned All-American citations as part of the 4x400m relay in 2011 and 2012. He posted Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference records in the 4x400m relay and 600m and won the league’s 600m indoor title in 2010. Altogether, he earned nine All-Conference awards and left the school as its record holder in five events: indoor 600m, 4x200m and 4x400m and outdoor 4x200m and 4x400m.

Lund earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership with emphasis in Higher Education in May of 2013 from Minnesota State University Moorhead and graduated Summa Cum Laude with his B.A. in Communication Studies with minors in Leadership Studies and Coaching in May 2011. He received a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2012.

Lund holds certifications in the USTFCCA Track & Field Certification Course, USTFCCCA Injury Management Course and has attended the USATF Podium Education Project.
