Greg Phillips coaches middle-distance and distance runners. He is also the head coach of the Whittier College cross country program.
Phillips served as interim head coach of the track & field program in 1996 before accepting responsibilities for the position for the next 10 years. In 2007 he decided to return to his previous role as distance/mid-distance coach.
During his time with the purple and gold he has seen over 30 qualifications to the National Championships.
While Phillips has been on the staff at Whittier he has coached almost 70 percent of Whittier's men's and women's athletes listed on the all-time Top 10 runners for distances 800 meters and longer.
He coached the Poets to their first ever national championships appearance by any Whittier women's program (cross country).
Phillips competed as a middle-distance/distance runner at the Division I level and can often be found running with members of the Poets.
Phillips holds a Master's Degree in Physical Education and has taught in the Department of Kinesiology & Leisure Studies.
