LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team made quick work of Occidental College Tuesday night as they rolled to the 18-6 victory.

They have now won two in a row, improving to 4-8, 2-2 SCIAC.

Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.) and Oppermann swapped goals early in the first quarter but after that it was all Purple & Gold as they would go on a 9-0 run that spanned through the second quarter.  Oxy stopped the run with a last second connection as the horn went off but they still saw themselves trailing 10-2 at the break.

During the run, Marina Daroca Bazan (Barcelona, Spain) and Kaitlin Vera (Fullerton, Calif.) each added three goals apiece and Bianca Vera (Los Angeles, Calif.), Hannah Rodriguez (Riverside, Calif.), and Gonzalez each added another.

Amelia Gregorio (Aventura, FL) converted the Poets first goal in the second half and that sparked a 7-1 run that spread into the middle of the fourth.  Daroca Bazan added another two and was supported by Rodriguez, Veronica Ramirez (La Habra, Calif.), Vera, and Ana Alumbaugh (Honolulu, HI).

Oxy tried to put together a comeback adding three goals in the final 4:00 minutes but it wasn't enough as Whittier would roll to the lopsided victory.

Freshman Lauren Mauge (Hanford, Calif.) got the start between the posts and finished with eight saves and three steals and also registered a .571 save percentage.

Whittier outshot the Tigers 36-17 with a .500 shooting percentage.  They were also 1-3 on power-plays.

Whittier returns home tomorrow, Thursday, March 15 when they host the University of Redlands beginning at 7:00pm.
