CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team opened up their second round of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Saturday but couldn't get past the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer as they fell 14-4.

The Purple & Gold see their losing streak move to five games as they drop to 6-14, 4-5 SCIAC and they also drop the season series with Pomona-Pitzer going 0-2.

The Sagehens opened up the game with four unanswered before Lindsay Shoaff (Costa Mesa, Calif.) stopped the run with an unassisted strike at the 5:40 mark in the second quarter converting on a power-play.  But this would be the lone connection for WC as they trailed 6-1 at the half.

Kendyl Riley (Huntington Beach, Calif.) started the scoring in the second half getting fed by Marina Daroca Bazan (Barcelona, Spain) and Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.) converted her first of the game a few minutes later.  But that's as close as Whittier would get as PP would rattle off a 6-0 run spanning into the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.

Riley and Daroca Bazan went 1-2 again with 3:56 to play in the game but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback.

Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer were dead even on shots at 26-26 and Whittier was 1-for-7 on power play opportunities.

Noa Cravens (Laie, HI) played all 32:00 minutes and tallied five saves and seven steals in the loss.

Whittier returns home to host the University of La Verne this Wednesday, April 4 beginning at 7:00pm.
