WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team got back on track Tuesday night as they cruised past Caltech 19-3 at the Slade Aquatic Center.

The Purple & Gold have now won five of their last six and improve to 6-4, 2-1 SCIAC.  They currently sit 3rd in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.

Whittier put together a big 1st and 3rd quarter.  They shutout the Beavers over the opening eight minutes 6-0, all coming from six different players.  In the second, Caltech managed to find the back of the goal at the 4:15 mark but WC was still able to add another four, again coming from four different players that stretched the lead to 10-1 at the break.

The Purple & Gold came out of the half and continued to provide pressure, while putting up another seven goals as they moved the score to 17-1.  Then in the fourth, despite seeing Caltech add two strikes, Whittier was able to tack on another two that secured the home victory.

Leading the offense was Emma Romero (El Segundo, Calif.) who finished with three goals and two assists.  Sawyer Bellville (Chino, Calif.) added three goals as well but also registered four assists.  Ana Alumbaugh (Honolulu, HI) also had a solid game with two tallies but also accounted for five others with assists.  Other notable goal scorers included Teresa Marchetti (Messina, Italy) with two and an assist, Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.) with two goals, and Roni Ramirez (La Habra, Calif.) with a pair of connections and an assist.

Whittier returns to the pool tomorrow, Thursday, March 14 as they travel to Claremont, Calif. to take on the Athenas beginning at 7:00pm.  Both the Poets and Athenas are tied for 3rd in the SCIAC Standings.
