PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team won their second straight game Wednesday night beating Caltech 19-12 on the road.

The Purple & Gold who are fighting for the No. 3 seed improve now to 12-9, 8-5 SCIAC.  They currently sit in a tie for 3rd with La Verne but hold the tiebreaker.

Whittier got things rolling in the opening eight minutes outscoring the Beavers 6-1, which included a hat trick from Sawyer Bellville (Chino, Calif.) and a pair of goals coming from Marina Daroca Bazan (Barcelona, Spain), who has now returned from injury.

They tacked on another six in the 2nd quarter, which included a 4-0 run mid-way through from Teresa Marchetti (Messina, Italy), Bellville, and Jacqueline Au (Los Angeles, Calif.) that moved the score to 12-5 at the half.  Caltech provided pushback in the second half putting up two goals in the 3rd and another five in the 4th.  But the seven goals wouldn't be enough as Whittier would add seven themselves with Marchetti and Keylee Leong (Pearl City, HI) both adding three.

Whittier outshot Caltech 19-12 and was 3-for-4 on power plays.  They also converted one 5-meter.

Lauren Mauge (Hanford, CT) got the start for the Purple & Gold between the posts and finished with five stops and a steal, playing all 32:00 minutes.

Marchetti led the offense finishing with six goals and a pair of assists.  Bellville added a four-goal effort with a dime and three steals and Leong added support with three tallies.  Taylor Kleinert (Lodi, Calif.) provided support with two goals and three assists and Daroca Bazan put up two connections.

Whittier wraps up the regular season this Saturday, April 20 when they host the University of Redlands beginning at 11:00am.
